In April we travelled to China, an adventure difficult to tell it because it gathers many different experiences, places, peoples, traditions, meals … I hope to be able to transmit how amazing it has been; here is the first post.
Aterrizamos en Pekín, a donde volvimos al final del viaje. Pero aprovechamos ya para visitar la muralla china y el encantador Templo del Lama.
We landed in Pekin, where we returned at the end of the trip. But we had time to visit the Chinese wall and the magic Lama Temple.
From there we left for Datong, to see the Xuankong Temple and the Yungang Grottoes. The Xuankong Temple or Hanging Temple is a monastery from the 5th century built into a cliff 75 meters height! Besides its location, its apparently simple wooden structure impressed us.
Yungang Grottoes are a set of Buddhists caves and niches, with more than 51.000 statues of stone. The sculptures that they contain are very, very beautiful.
Datong’s historical center also deserves a visit, we liked it much.
After a night by train we arrived in Pingyao, a beautiful village where it seems time has stopped. It is a tourist destination for Chinese people and we found many of them who had never seen a Western person and they asked us to have a photo taken with us. It had heard it from other travelers, but to living it is a very special sensation, as a “mutual discovery”.
In China there is a perfect combination between tradition and the most advanced technology, though in villages as Pingyao everything is tradition: tea shops and of lacquered boxes, weavers, paintbrushes craftsmen…
And today I finish with Xian, which beside being the city of the warriors, is one of the places I liked more in China. Its market is very exotic and lively, and the Great Mosque is gorgeous.
The markets in China are very different from those in other cultures, as the Arabics, because the character of Chinese people is totally different, they are more introverted, less expressive. It is difficult to explain it: there are many people, many products and quite enough noise but fewer bustle.
