Guía de viaje: Sur de Inglaterra II / South of England Guide II

A pesar de conducir por la izquierda y de las estrechas carreteras, lo bueno de viajar en coche es que descubres sitios mágicos como St Just in Roseland, que tiene una antigua iglesia con su cementerio al borde del mar.

 

Despitedriving on the left and the narrow roads, the good thing of travelling by car is that you discover magic places as St Just in Roseland, which has an old church with its cemetery at the edge of the sea.

En cuanto a la comida, lo mejor es un buen pub. Pero no esperéis encontrar mucha verdura y, desde luego, nada de fruta. Uno de mis platos preferidos es el pastel de riñones.

 

As for the food, the best is a good pub. But do not expect to find many vegetables and, certainly, no fruits. One of my favorite dishes is the steak & kidney pie.

Polperro me enamoró; es un precioso pueblo costero donde por cierto descubrí una mercería que vendía libros y revistas antiguas imposibles de encontrar aquí y a un precio estupendo.

 

I fell in love with Polperro; it is a beautiful coastal village where, by the way, I discovered a haberdashery  selling old books and magazines, impossible to find here and for a great price. 

De hecho hay muchas tiendas de antigüedades con precios muy asequibles. He venido cargada de libros de labores, dos cámaras de fotos, un reloj,… En Arundel hay un anticuario especializado en cámaras fotográficas que tiene cientos, Spencer Swaffer Antiques.

 

In fact there are many antique shops at very affordable prices. I have come home laden with craft books, two cameras, a clock… In Arundel there is an antique shop specialized in cameras and it has hundreds of them, Spencer SwafferAntiques.

Brighton fue nuestra última parada en la costa, una ciudad grande que vale la pena visitar por su antiguo embarcadero y por el Royal Pavillion, el palacio de verano de Jorge IV, de estilo oriental.

 

Brighton was our last stop on the coast. It is well worth visiting because its old pier and the Royal Pavillion, the summer palace of George IV, oriental style. 

En Bath ya habíamos estado pero queríamos que mi hija viese sus famosos baños romanos. Y de paso me encontré con este escaparate.

 

We had been previously in Bath but we wanted our daughter to see its famous Roman baths. And I found  this shop window.

Y terminamos el viaje en un pequeño pueblo, Norton St Philip, donde se encuentra el pub más antiguo de Inglaterra que no ha cerrado nunca, The George Inn. También es una fonda, así que nos queda pendiente volver para alojarnos allí.

 

And we finished the trip in a small village, Norton St Philip, where you can find the oldest pub in England that has never closed, The George Inn. It is also a hotel, so we hope to come back one day and stay there.
