Washi tape has become a very fashionable craft. I haven’t used it very much, but my daughter loves it. Since she was a little girl she’s asked us to buy masking tape and she’s used it to decorate crafts, gifts or her own things, from toys to the school agenda. When I knew washi tape technique I put a name to what she made.
Washi tape started as a craft in 2006, when a group of Japanese artists used paper rice tape (that means ‘washi’) to create a book which was presented to a manufacturer company of this tape, Kamoi Kakoshi, so they extend the range of colors for artistic use. It was so much successful than from the first twenty colors we’ve come to multitude of prints, textures and materials.
The technique consists basically of decorating with adhesive tape. It’s possible to use on paper, glass, wood, plastic…, anything.
You can find many websites and blogs about washi tape. In Spanish there are two I like particularly: Washitapemanía and All Washi Tape.
And in English, I’m a great fan of Hello Sandwich, an Australian girl who lives in Tokyo who has turned into one of the most famous artists of the washi tape. Though they are not devoted exclusively to this technique, I also recommend Omiyage Blogs, Torie Jayne and Creature Comforts. And for children, Jessica Okui uses to publish often washi tape crafts at Zakka Life.
To buy online, PrettyTape and Happy Tape have thousands of tapes to choose between. And it’s becoming easier to find washi tape at the crafts stores in Spain.

Me gusta mucho tu blog, Soufflé.

Gracias por la información. Me gusta mucho la página.
¡Quién pudiera tener tantos washi tapes como los de la foto del MT School! Son un vicio.
¡Y que lo digas!
